The Fantanele-Cogealac wind farm in Romania has become the largest onshore wind farm in Europe with an installed capacity of 540MW, after Czech utility ČEZ connected an additional wind turbine to the grid on Thursday (11th October) morning.
CEO of ČEZ Daniel Beneš said the addition made the wind park the largest project in the world outside the United States.
With the wind farm in its portfolio, ČEZ held more than 40% of the green certificates market in Romania last year.
ČEZ said it was going to capitalise on the experience of building the Fantanele-Cogealac wind park with a new project in the pipeline in Poland.
