    2012-10-18
Southeast European countries have pledged to work more closely together to improve the security of supply of natural gas and electricity in emergency situations.
The newly set up security of supply coordination group of the Energy Community held its first meeting in Budva, Montenegro, on Wednesday (17th October).
The group aims to “strengthen the information exchange and coordination of actions” among ministries, regulators and the energy industry, as well as consumers, the Energy Community said on Wednesday.
The group plans to set up national contact points where different parties can contact each other directly and exchange information in case of supply emergencies.
On Tuesday (16th October), the Energy Community urged Balkan countries to take further steps to open their “largely foreclosed” wholesale markets to competition and to better integrate with their neighbours (see EDEM 16 October 2012).
