    2010-04-06
Czech Republic power incumbent CEZ has received a licence for electricity trading in Serbia through its Serbian subsidiary CEZ Serbia. This is the ninth country in which CEZ is licensed to trade power. Apart from the Czech Republic, other markets include Poland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia.
CEZ plans to expand in South Eastern Europe as the market develops, and has distribution company assets in Romania and Bulgaria, as well as generation assets in Bulgaria (the 1,260 MW Varna thermal power plant). The company has already highlighted its ambition elsewhere in the Balkans, with investment in new power plants in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
