    Czech power incumbent CEZ has been shortlisted in a tender for a strategic partner in the modernization of a 535 MW coal-fired power plant and construction of a new one in Galati, Romania, the company said on Tuesday (21st August). The tender is held by the power plant’s state-owned operator Termoelectrica. CEZ is also involved a tender to build a 400-500 MW generation unit to be fuelled by either natural gas or black coal at the Borzesti power plant in Romania also owned by Termoelectrica. No deadline for submitting the bids has been set, according to CEZ. In 2005, CEZ bought a 24.6% stake in Romania’s largest electricity distributior Electrica Oltenia, which supplies 1.37 million costumers, from the Romanian government. Last year, CEZ lost out to Italy’s Enel in a bid to acquire a 67.5% stake in Romanian distribution company Electrica Muntenia Sud. (THE HEREN REPORTS - EDEM 11162 / 21 August 2007)
