Romanian power market operator OPCOM traded 5.1 TWh of electricity via its Day-ahead market in 2007, bringing the total volume traded since the launch of the market (on 30th July 2005) to 10.9 TWh, OPCOM said on Friday (11th January). In 2007, the traded volume accounted for 9.33% of the country’s annual consumption, compared with a 7.74% share a year before. Last year, OPCOM had 75 participants, with an average of 52 of them active daily on the market, according to the company. The total volume of electricity for delivery in 2007 and 2008, through 158 bilateral contracts concluded via a public auction on the Centralized Bilateral Contracts Market, reached 11.9 TWh. The number of contracts was five times higher than in 2006, OPCOM said. Contracts for delivery in 2008 totalled 7.6 TWh – 14.24% of last year’s net consumption.
