Romanian exchange OPCOM saw spot market volumes fall 9% month on month, with 451.3GWh of power contracted. However, this still represents a 9% increase in Day-ahead market volume year on year. The monthly average price decreased again to �42.13/MWh over September 2008, but rose 15% over the average for August 2009. Spot trade price levels ranged between �28.00/MWh to �67.00/MWh, with 64 of 95 participants active in the market. The hourly average volume was 626.8MWh, another month-on-month drop. However, Romanian consumption volumes have indicated a reduction of nearly 11% for the month. The exchange pointed out that traded volumes on the spot power market were equivalent to 11.5% of national consumption, while traded volumes of September contracts concluded on its forward markets accounted for 23.5% of national consumption. OPCOM’s forward markets, the Centralised Market for Bilateral Contracts (CMBC), where forward contracts are traded through public auction, and the negotiated forward market (CMBC-CN), traded 950.9GWh at an average price of �44.96/MWh.
