  • ©ICIS HEREN - Romanian ArcelorMittal mill seeks cheap power
    2010-04-06
Romanian steel mill ArcelorMittal Galati is expected to buy 1.73TWh on the local market on Wednesday (23rd December) following revelations it might end its contract with a state supplier from next year, according to reports in the local press. The company said it was prepared to pay no more than New Lei 139/MWh (33/MWh) or 55m for the entire contract – the lowest price ever offered on the exchange since the platform was established three years ago, according to administrator Opcom quoted in a Romanian newspaper. The mill has been sourcing 40% of its power from Electrica, but now wants to end its contracts with the state utility and independent supplier Petprod, hoping to find a better offer from January.
