©ICIS HEREN - OPCOM's emissions platform signs up its first member
The Romanian subsidiary of trading firm Consus is the first company to join the new emissions platform run by OPCOM, the Romanian power exchange, it confirmed on Friday.
The platform was launched on 1 June (see EDCM 27 May 2010).
OPCOM operates auction sessions of tailor-made emissions contracts, but it is also considering introducing continuous trading as liquidity improves.
Lavinia Stoica, general manager of Consus Romania, told ICIS Heren: "We consider this platform to bring reliability, transparency and all the necessary conditions for establishing the right reference price of CO2 transactions."
Consus Romania represents installations in almost all the sectors covered in the EU Emission Trading System (ETS), and is trading for compliance purposes, Stoica said. Before becoming a member of OPCOM, the firm's portfolio was managed by sister companies in Poland and France, which are collectively members of EEX, ECX and BlueNext.
Clearly, until more companies join OPCOM's emissions platform, this will remain the case, although Consus can also conduct transactions over the counter.
Before the launch of the platform, OPCOM told ICIS Heren that 12 companies had shown interest in the exchange.
Stoica said she was confident it would not be long before more counterparties were confirmed as members.
