  • © ICIS HEREN - Czech government sets limits for power price hikes in 2011
    2010-10-21
The Czech government has set a 5.5% cap on increases in power prices for both households and companies for 2011, mainly due to spiralling costs triggered by a generous solar subsidies system, according to local reports. Government-guaranteed feed-in tariffs set at about koruny (Kc) 13,000/MWh (€529.70/MWh) led to a boom in photovoltaic plants. The country currently has more than 462MW installed solar capacity, with possibly another 738MW coming on line by the end of 2010. But earlier this month, the Czech government decided to tax revenues from renewable feed-in tariffs in a bid to keep a lid on end-user price rises next year (see EDEM 14 October 2010).
