    2010-12-14
Tuesday`s (14th December) scheduled auction of 325,000 EU allowances (EUAs) hosted by Romanian power exchange Opcom was cancelled because of low interest. Opcom reported that no bids were placed. The exchange was holding the auction on behalf of emissions broker Consus (see EDCM 8 December 2010). Had it taken place, it would have been Opcom`s first emission allowance auction. When Opcom and Consus publicised the sale last week, the exchange only had four registered members on its carbon platform. Over the subsequent six days, this figure grew to five, with the addition of the 2.3GW Turceni power plant. Turceni could not be reached for comment on Tuesday. Loredana Marincas, senior consultant at Consus, told ICIS Heren on Tuesday that the company had not yet decided whether to relaunch the auction. Consus is holding the auction on behalf of an undisclosed client. (THE ICIS HEREN REPORTS - EDCM 5.342 / 14 December 2010)
