  • © ICIS HEREN - Carbon registries to reopen in five countries on Friday
    2011-02-03
Five EU emissions registries will reopen on 4 February, according to a notice from the European Commission on Thursday. The announcement marks the gradual reopening of registries across Europe after the suspension called on 21 January to stop the re-trading of EU allowances (EUAs) stolen from accounts in Greece, the Czech Republic and Austria. The registries set to reopen are in France, Germany, Slovakia, the Netherlands and the UK, all of which will be reactivated as of 08:00 (Central European Time) on Friday. The Commission said it expected "several more" registries to submit security reports in the coming days - the first step towards reopening. It did not comment on which countries were expected to submit reports next. Friday`s reopenings mean the scheduled German and UK government spot auctions of 4.7m EUAs can go ahead next week. Germany will sell 300,000 EUAs on 8 February and the UK will auction 4.4m on 10 February. French exchange BlueNext said it would relaunch spot trading on Friday morning, while GreenX and the IntercontinentalExchange extended the suspension of spot and daily futures transactions.
