  • © ICIS HEREN - Romania needs to replace half of electricity plants by 2035
    2011-04-21
Romania will have to shut down more than half of its total installed capacity by 2035 and invest up to €40bn in new generation over the same period, according to its draft energy strategy published this week. The document has identified more than 11GW that will have to be switched off over the next 25 years. It also indicates that nearly 15GW of new capacity will have to come online over the same period. The investments will have to include not only the building of new capacity but also upgrade works on existing plants. Romania has plans to build an additional two units with a total installed capacity of 1.5GW at the Cernavodă nuclear power plant and expand its hydro, wind and solar potential.
