© ICIS HEREN - Emissions trading excluded from REMIT |
2011-09-14 |
The emissions markets will not be subject to a new EU energy regulation, a spokeswoman for the European parliament has said. Contrary to previous expectations, the Regulation on Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT) will exclude carbon trading, the spokeswoman said following the vote to adopt the new legislation. This means that the new EU energy regulator body, the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators, will be able to access data on emissions allowance transactions, but not have the power to flag up market abuse.
