2012-04-11 |
The Bulgarian government gave the green light to the construction of a seventh reactor at the country`s 2GW Kozloduy nuclear power plant on Wednesday (11th April), a government source confirmed. The decision, made in a cabinet meeting, comes after Bulgaria ditched plans to build a new 2GW nuclear plant in Belene for financial reasons, including a lack of interest from foreign investors (see EDEM 29 March 2012). The proposal has already been reported several times in local media over the past month. Deputy energy minister Valentin Nikolov said the reactor could be operational by 2018. The government would not confirm whether the 1GW reactor that is being built for the Belene plant will be used for the Kozloduy expansion (THE ICIS HEREN REPORTS - EDEM 16070 / 11 April 2012) |
