| South Korean power utility KEPCO has expressed interest in constructing two nuclear reactors at Romania`s Cernavodă nuclear power plant, according to the Romanian energy ministry. Earlier this year, Germany`s RWE, France-based GDF SUEZ, Czech utility ČEZ and Spain`s Iberdrola pulled out of the project, which is due for completion by 2017 (see EDEM 21 January 2011). The four European utilities were partners with Romania`s state-owned Nuclearelectrica in a consortium called Energonuclear, set up to oversee the development of the 1.4GW units 3 and 4 at Cernavodă. RWE, ČEZ and GDF SUEZ each held a 9.15% stake, while Iberdrola had a 6.2% participation. The Romanian government has said Korean and Japanese investors have expressed interest in joining remaining partners Nuclearelectrica, steel giant Arcelor Mittal and Italy`s Enel.
