OPCOM: Trading record on the Day-Ahead Market - 62,552 MWh traded for the delivery day September 28, 2026

For the delivery day of 28 September 2026, the volume traded on the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) reached 62,552 MWh. This is the highest level recorded this year, following the maximum values registered during the winter period, in February.
The average price recorded on the DAM for the delivery day of 28 September 2026 was 154.34 EUR/MWh. This was below the European daily average of approximately 171 EUR/MWh.
Exceeding the previous maximum annual quantitative level recorded during the spring-summer period marks a new milestone for activity on the DAM. The result confirms the sustained interest of market participants in using the organised trading mechanisms made available by OPCOM.
The high level of traded volume also highlights the market’s capacity to handle significant quantities of electricity. Trading takes place within a transparent and competitive framework.
Cristina Șetran, CEO of OPCOM: “The trading record registered for the delivery day of 28 September 2026 represents an important milestone for activity on the Day-Ahead Market. The volume of 62,552 MWh reflects the high level of participation and activity on the spot market. For OPCOM, market liquidity is an essential element. It enables market participants to efficiently adjust their trading positions. At the same time, it contributes to the transparent formation of electricity prices. The result recorded today confirms the DAM’s capacity to accommodate high electricity volumes. It also confirms the role of organised markets in the efficient functioning of Romania’s electricity market.”
The increased liquidity in the markets administered and operated by OPCOM contributes to supporting well-structured portfolio strategies over the short, medium and long term. In particular, DAM liquidity facilitates the adjustment of the trading positions of the more than 200 participants registered on the spot market operated by OPCOM.
The transparent mechanisms administered by OPCOM support both the efficient operation of baseload electricity generation and the integration of renewable generation. Through these mechanisms, the market can respond more effectively to variations in supply and demand. At the same time, participants can manage their trading positions more efficiently.
Liquidity and trading activity thus contribute to the stability, efficiency and proper functioning of the electricity market. Ultimately, these benefits are reflected in the operation of a transparent and competitive market mechanism, to the benefit of the final consumer.
The result recorded for 28 September 2026 represents a new milestone for the DAM and confirms the role of the spot market in the formation of electricity prices in Romania.
