The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending €65m to Romanian grid operator Transelectrica to support its medium-term investment programme, the bank announced on Friday (6th August). The work involves modernising and retro-fitting seven high-voltage substations in the country`s transmission grid and replacing transformers and autotransformers in high-voltage substations.
The EIB loan will cover up to 50% of the total project cost over 15 years, with a two-year grace period. The remaining amount will be guaranteed by third-party banks. It is the third loan to Transelectrica from EIB resources for investment in rehabilitating the national power grid.
