  • © ICIS HEREN - Energy Community looks to boost SEE investment
    2012-04-04
The Energy Community – set up by the EU and southeastern European (SEE) countries in an attempt to extend the internal energy market – is consulting on how to boost investment in the energy sector and on which projects to include in a future regional strategy.
The Energy Community said more investment is needed to achieve security of supply and improve the SEE region’s energy systems.
But new ways of financing projects are required, given the limited public and private funding in the region, the consultation said.
Interested parties have until 23 April to submit comments on which projects to prioritise, how to balance public and private funding, what can be done to make the region more attractive and how to finance projects (project bonds or grants and loans). The Energy Community comprises the EU on one side and the SEE “contracting parties”: Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Ukraine and Moldova.
